And now Zooey Deschanel has made more of a long term commitment to improving the welfare of our furry friends.
The 33-year-old announced via Twitter on Wednesday that she had adopted two rescue puppies from the Los Angeles non-profit Bill Foundation.

The New Girl star included a picture of the sandy-haired pooches, who looked nearly identical as they snoozed side-by-side on their dog bed.
Zooey received a flurry of excited Twitter messages in response to her picture, including fans curious to know what names she had picked out for her fluffy companions.
'For those asking - The dogs are named Zelda and Dot,' she tweeted later in the day.
The actress was clearly enamored by the new additions to her family, even thanking the Bill Foundation via Twitter for facilitating the adoption.
'I have to thank the #billfoundation for the greatest, sweetest, most wonderful dogs in the world. Apples of my eye!'
The foundation takes in dogs from shelters in Los Angeles and helps the canines find a permanent home.
